Morphettville Barrier Trial Blackbookers July 19 - horses to follow from the South Australian trials

  • Track condition: Soft 7
  • 3 to follow
  • Gytrash most impressive

A total of 10 barrier trial heats where run and won at Morphettville on Thursday, July 19, where a few stood out as potential winners and can be followed in their upcoming assignments.

Here are my horses to follow from the Morphettville barrier trials:

Trial 2 (1000m) 1:00.12
It was no surprise to see SUNLIGHT winning this heat, but she did it so effortlessly and looks to have come back in great order. As if made to order, Chevite was pushed out hard to lead and was niggled along throughout to set a good tempo for Sunlight. The Tony McEvoy-trained filly settled on the outside of the leader and strolled to the front early in straight before kicking clear under soft hands and heels riding. Time was good, and she clearly had plenty more to offer.

Trial 3 (1000m) 1:01.00
Another impressive trial from a McEvoy-trained filly with LAKE DISTRICT GIRL leading all the way for a very soft win. At her second start, she tried to lead all the way in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) but was run down by subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Enbihaar, Golden Slipper and Sire’s Produce runner-up Oohood and Champagne Stakes winner Seabrook. That’s some pretty hot form, and there is no doubt this filly has some class considering she finished within a length of that trio.

Trial 4 (1000m) 1:00.10
The quickest heat, and arguably the most impressive trial of the morning went to the Gordon Richards-trained GYTRASH. This two-year-old Lope De Vega gelding debuted with a 2nd placing over 1100m but then dropped back to 1000m and scored an upset win before again failing over 1100m when he was caught three wide without cover. He jumped well in the trial and soon drove through to lead, but unlike the previous two heat winners who strolled out and where never under pressure, Gytrash was actually hard held over the concluding stages and could have gone quicker at an even gallop. He’ll be winning this campaign.

BLACKBOOKERS:

Lake District Girl
