Morphettville Barrier Trial Blackbookers April 5 - horses to follow from the South Australian trials

  • 5 to follow
  • It’s Been A Battle most impressive

A total of 11 barrier trial heats where run and won at Morphettville on Thursday, April 5, where a few stood out as potential winners and can be followed in their upcoming assignments.

Here are my horses to follow from the Morphettville barrier trials:

Trial 1 (1000m) 59.62
VIDDORA was all class as expected in the opening heat. She was last to begin but quickly mustered along the inside before hitting the front early in the straight and being eased right down with 100m to go. In for another big campaign.

Trial 2 (1000m) 58.85
Shane Oxlade’s speedy mare, IT’S BEEN A BATTLE, won this heat by five in the quickest 1000m heat of the morning, and she was never asked for an effort. She did it tough first-up in the Matrice Stakes (1200m) when having to work hard early from the wide gate. She has such a high cruising speed and is sure to prove hard to catch in whatever she contests.

Trial 3 (1000m) 1:00.46
Phillip Stokes’ 2YO Ocean Park gelding, DANCER’S KIN, sat three wide without cover and was never asked for an effort but proved far too good in the run to the line. He finished runner-up in his first two starts and wasn’t beaten far when 3rd in the MM 2YO race at Morphettville. Fourth-up with a soft trial under his belt, he should prove hard to beat next time.

Trial 5 (1000m) 1:00.46
We found MUSIC BAY in some earlier trials and she won on debut for us, but this was arguably her most impressive trial to date and she can go back to back. She sat behind the speed and just ambled up to the lead with real authority and was under a strong hold. I think this filly might be something special so stick with her.

Trial 8 (1000m) 1:00.12
Tony McEvoy considered A THOUSAND DEGREES good enough to go into the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) on debut but he finished a distant last and was never in the hunt. He showed good early speed to take up the running and was very soft to the line. Can win first-up in something easier.
