Ramornie Handicap ride on Tyzone goes to Colless– Orman & Lloyd unavailable

  • Orman & Lloyd unavailable

Queensland horse Tyzone will have a new rider for the Listed Ramornie Hcp to be run at Grafton on Wednesday.

Toby Edmonds recently took over as trainer of the Written Tycoon gelding from North Queensland trainer Roy Chillemi who is based on the Atherton Tablelands west of Cairns.

Edmonds has always had James Orman in mind for the Ramornie Hcp ride in place of regular rider Jeff Lloyd who has been riding in South Africa of late.

Unfortunately, Orman has plans to ride in Hong Kong this month and is also unavailable to ride the gelding.

"Apparently James had mixed up his booking for a trip to Hong Kong so he isn't available" Edmonds said.
"Jeff Lloyd will be back from South Africa on Tuesday but he wasn't keen to go to Grafton so close to getting back."

Edmonds was then only too happy to book Colless for the ride believing the horse’s racing style will suit the multiple Group One winning rider.

Whilst in the Chillemi stables, the four-year-old won 10 of his 17 starts and after a settling-in period on the Gold Coast, he has won two of his three starts for Edmonds.

The plan for the horse this winter has been to keep him under wraps and away from the higher graded races for now.

"We had the Eye Liner and Ramornie in mind for him all along. He has done well since the Eye Liner and I would be disappointed if he didn't race well" Edmonds said.

Tyzone has fared well with the barrier draw coming up with gate seven for the 1200m trip and will carry just a half kilo more than his impressive second placing in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes.

Meanwhile, the Stuart Kendrick-trained Tarzan will miss the James Kirby Quality on Grafton Cup day and will be saved for a race on his home track at the Sunshine Coast.

Kendrick was caught a little unawares by the weight given to the Drumbeats gelding (61.5kgs) and decided not to make the trip south.

"They haven't missed him at the weights. There is a 1000-metre race at Caloundra on Saturday worth more money" Kendrick said.
"We all know how good Tarzan is at Caloundra and at 1000 metres so it is very tempting.
"I will have a look at the likely Caloundra race field after nominations and make up my mind. But at this stage we will probably stay home."

Tarzan already holds the 1000m course record at the Corbould Park circuit but that looks like remaining safe at this stage with soft conditions forecast for racing this coming Saturday.
