Tony Gollan’s two-year-olds, Ef Troop and Outback Barbie stood out at the Doomben trials on Tuesday morning.

Both horses are Listed race winners with Outback Barbie also placing in Group Two company.

The Spirit Of Boom filly was first to trial and looked comfortable as she box-seated to the home turn.

From there, Jim Byrne pulled her wide and she simply cantered up to Chikorita and slipped past her near the line to win the trial by a long neck, still under a good hold.

Her time of 59.74 was quite good considering the easy run she enjoyed.

Then Ef Troop lined-up for his trial and was clearly the stand out of the day.

From barrier rise, the Spirit OF Boom gelding, along with the Robert Heathcote trained Alle Vongole put six lengths on the rest of them by the home turn.

Ridden patiently by Brad Stewart, Ef Troop eased on the line took out the trial by just over three lengths from Alle Vongole with stablemate She Goes Boom nine lengths back in third place.

The Gollan-trained gelding ran the fastest time of the day, covering the 1000m in 58.78, the last 600m in 34.19.

Prior to the trials, Gollan had plans to take both horses back to Sydney and possibly Melbourne for a tilt at the Spring Carnivals.

Of course, these plans were all dependent upon their performance in the Doomben trials, and with the results achieved, it could very well be a case of ‘all roads lead south for the spring’.

Gollan has said that Ef Troop will more than likely resume at Doomben on August 11 but no plans are set for Outback Barbie at this stage.
