Matt Dunn will have up to 10 runners engaged in an attempt to grab this year’s Country Championship.

Heading Dunn’s army of contenders will be the three-year-old Snitz who put in a dazzling performance to win first-up at Doomben on Saturday.

The Snitzel gelding carried topweight and finished too strongly for his opposition in what was a fine return to the track. That was the gelding’s fourth career victory from just seven starts and his third win in Brisbane.

Dunn’s attempt to win the Championship last year was on track when Perfect Dare won a heat at Grafton but had his chances blown when confronted with a heavy track in the Final.

This year however, Dunn’s confidence is even higher as he heads towards the Championship heats.

Dunn said that Snitz would have another run on the Doomben track in two weeks time and then head to Grafton for a qualifying heat of the Championship on March 11.

“I hope Snitz will be hard to beat in the Country Championships. If he finishes first or second, he can then head to the final at Randwick” Dunn said.

However, Snitz will be just one representative from the Dunn stables. When asked how many he expects to take part he said “about ten” would face the starter in the Grafton heat.

The final of the Country Championship is worth $500,000 this year.
