Jim's Journey - Set for the Adelaide Cup

Adelaide Cup hopeful Jim’s Journey is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky as he lines up next Monday.

While his stats read two starts at the trip and unplaced in both, he only just finished out of a top three placing both times.

In 2016 he chased home the leading three to finish just over two lengths behind winner Purple Smile.

Then last year, he battled on gamely to finish fifth behind Annus Mirabilis beaten just over three lengths.

His preparation for this year’s Cup was on song until his latest run where he finished a disappointing sixth, beaten nearly eight lengths however trainer Peter Blanch told Racing.com he believes it was no fault of the horse or jockey on the day.

“It was obviously a disappointing performance, but it wasn’t the horse’s or Paul Gatt’s fault” he said.

“He jumped too well, found himself close to the speed and he failed to finish off, but he’s done that before when ridden like that”.

Blanch believes Monday’s Cup field has more early speed in it which will only benefit Jim’s Journey’s chances of victory.

“They’ve gone too slow in recent starts, but we should have a genuine tempo on Monday which we know suits him” Blanch said.

Blanch said the six-year-old’s trackwork since the Lord Reims run has been back on track and they have put in overtime with his work to make sure he is on song for Monday’s big race.

“We’ve taken the blinkers off for this race to make sure that he stops over-racing and can finish off like we’ve seen before”.

With his preparation and the gear change happening, Blanch is confident of a top four finish on Monday.
