CrownBet Review

Australia’s newest bookmaker, CrownBet, has really made big inroads since launching in March 2015, and our independent review aims to see if all the hype surrounding their product is justified.

With a competitive bookmaking landscape in Australia, CrownBet needed to offer something new and exciting as well as delivering competitive odds and diverse markets to the Aussie consumer. They have done exactly that, and the future looks bright for this innovative and most experienced newcomer.

100% Australian Owned and Operated

Although CrownBet are the new kids on the block, their wagering model is structured by some of the best minds in the business. And when it comes to delivering a market leading product, the company couldn’t be in better hands.

Matt Tripp, the former head of Sportsbet, bought out bookmaker Betezy and rebranded it BetEasy. Following the acquisition, Tripp combined forces with James Packer’s Crown International to form CrownBet.

Crown International took a 67% controlling interest in BetEasy as part of the takeover and the remaining 33% is retained by Tripp.

Packer's Crown Resorts International already controlled the Betfair betting exchange and the tie-up with BetEasy gave them access to fixed odds betting and the ability to create a huge brand to take on the goliath European bookmakers.

Crown Resorts International operators two casinos in Perth and Melbourne and are also working on two other casino development projects in Sydney and Brisbane.

Just like BetEasy, CrownBet offer markets and live odds across all major sports including horse racing, NRL, AFL, rugby union, soccer and cricket as well as numerous others.

Crown Resorts sold their stake in the bookmaker to The Stars Group in February 2018.

CrownBet offer fantastic weekly promotions on horse racing and the biggest sporting events including Bonus Bets, money back specials and refunds.

There is never a shortage of unique offers to choose from, with risk-free bets, Bonus Bets for finishing runner-up in a feature race and refund offers in A-League, NRL, AFL, Big Bash League games and soccer and rugby internationals and more being a regular fixture.

They also do regular no deposit free bet promotions where you get the chance to win big with free cash. By simply being a CrownBet member, you will get offered the opportunity to use the completely free bets from time to time on big sporting events.

The CrownBet ‘Fair Go Refund’ is about as Australian as it gets and gives the bookmaker the discretionary powers to refund bets if losers have been hard done by.

From time to time CrownBet will announce ‘Fair Go Refunds’ if for example they think a referee gives a contentious penalty in the last minute of the game, or a controversial try is scored and costs your side a win, or even a contentious issue in a major horse race can qualify for the ‘Fair Go Refund.’

New Customer Offer

CrownBet offer new customers the chance to claim the deposit $100, get $100 in bonus bets welcome offer*.

The promotion is exclusively available via

Unfortunately the sign-up bonus is not available to residents of Victoria, NSW, WA or SA.

While other sign-up bonuses may not be available to some states that miss out on bonuses due to legislation, CrownBet’s Loyalty Program is available to ALL Australian customers, regardless of location. CrownBet customers can earn Crown Signature Club points for every bet placed, therefore not being excluded from a reward based on geographic standing.

These points can be redeemed in the member’s choice of Crown experiences including Crown’s world-class restaurants, award winning hotels, retail precinct and gaming offerings.
Wagering Requirement

Winnings derived from the sign-up offer must be turned over once before a withdrawal of the value of the winnings is permitted. Members from International locations outside of Australia will be required to turnover winnings derived from the offer five times before a withdrawal of the value of the winnings is permitted. Subject to the Turnover Rule, any winnings derived from the offer must be wagered (reinvested) at odds of a minimum of $1.50 or more before a withdrawal of the value of the winnings is permitted.
Odds and Markets

Carrying on the excellent work of BetEasy, CrownBet offers markets on all key Australian sports events including thoroughbred racing, harness racing and greyhound racing as well as NRL, AFL, Super Rugby, soccer and cricket.

They have pre-event odds and live odds available on all domestic sports and future markets and key forthcoming events and also offer overseas betting opportunities. In-play betting is offered on most markets.

You will find the odds in line with most of their rivals although they won't tend to stand out with the biggest price.

The CrownBet website is effective, functional and easy to use and provides customers with a slick experience. The menu at the top of the homepage separates ‘Racing’ and ‘Sport’ while also giving quick access to ‘Rewards,’ ‘Support’ and the latest ‘Promotions’.

The biggest upcoming racing and sporting events are listed on the left hand side so punters will never miss the chance to clean up on a popular futures market.

The bet slip features on the right hand side of the site and is large enough to be able to see all of your bets clearly.

Bets are fairly quick to place too – exactly what you want from a betting website where time can often be critical.

CrownBet App

The CrownBet app can be downloaded free of charge and used to place bets on iPhone, iPad and Android versions.

Considering the app is still in its infancy and has been criticised for its lack of speed, we took it for a test drive and found a unique design with great functionality. The home screen displays the next five racing events and five upcoming sporting events, while a further eight functions at the bottom of the screen are smartly devised.

While putting eight menu functions across the bottom of any screen would have looked confusing, CrownBet have given each menu button a different function depending on whether it has been tapped or held down. If you tap the horse icon, the ‘next to go’ screen appears, but if you hold down the horse icon for a second, the racing menu appears with options for ‘Futures,’ ‘Thoroughbreds,’ ‘Greyhounds’ and ‘Harness.’ Each of the other menu buttons has a similar feature and there is a tutorial to guide you through each initial step of the app journey.

A quick swipe of the screen in the app will also update the odds of any race or sports events to the latest prices - making it one of the best products offered by any Australian bookmaker.
Customer Service

CrownBet offer good customer services with telephone lines open from 9am to midnight (AEST) on Monday-Saturday and 8.30am to 6.30am on Sundays unless specific events run later. There is also email help and live chat help available on the website.
