  • English and Astern looked tremendous

English, on the outside, swamps Terravista and Astern to win trial

As The Championships approach, better class horses of all ages are making their way back to the track.

At Monday's huge set of 21 barrier trials, held at Warwick Farm Racecourse on a Good 4 surface, this was very evident.

Here are the stand outs that will be winning over the next few months.

Older horses

DENZIL: is only a Class 1 horse but he races like he's a Saturday city grader. Looked very sharp, improved and talented when 3rd in 1200m trial. Will win upon resuming soon.

ENGLISH: I know we've fallen into this trap before but this mare looked supreme in winning this trial from Terravista. Just sat off a good speed over 811m and toyed with a crackajack field in the end.

ASTERN: was in same trial as English and he too just cantered home late winding up 3rd. Big carnival expected from him. Looked awesome as well.

UGO FOSCOLO: is a name we don't know but he was made to do all the hard work out in front and was tun down only late by 3 Group 1 gallopers. Watch him in 3YO races.

EURO ANGEL: looked outstanding when 2nd in 811m trial. Was held together yet got home final stages in a strong trial. Liked it a lot.

ACHI BABA: sat wide all way and wasn't let go at all yet made ground on leaders final stages in quick 811m trial. Looks very smart.

OZARK: ran slow time but he turned off with 300m to go and still won with his head on his chest. Gelded now and looks a Black Typer in the making.

FRAGONARD: was most impressive running 2nd in 811m trial. wasn't asked to extend at all at any stage and ran through line with ears pricked. May well be up to Saturday city grade.

OCTAVIAN AUGUSTUS: just cantered around in his 811m trial, missing a place but coursing wide and looking very at ease. I think he might have a fair bit of class.

LOOSE GOOSE: is a Class 1 mare at provincial level but she trialled better than that here. ran 2nd and and ran time and wasn't knocked about. Daisy-cutter who could win in town.

PERANTO: trialled very impressively. Has done all his racing in low grade in NZ but he can win midweek grade here. raced away under restraint and ran nice time.

RIVA ROMANCE: jumped and led and when given a smidgen of reign, shot away. Unraced but is speedy and a provincial maiden winner for sure.

NOIRE: chased a Waterhouse/Bott runner all way and wasn't let go yet made good ground. Looks a likely winner soon. Is unraced.

SHE WILL REIGN (Manhattan Rain-Courgette) was explosive and controlled and won in super, super fast time by 9 lengths. Freak.

SONGLIKE (Your Song-Mabkhana) once She Will reign took off, this filly had the job of chasing and carting field up. And rider did not press any buttons as it was futile chasing winner.

DEMERARA (Commands-Rum Cruise) may not be as good as She Will Reign, but looked nearly as good. Just jogged all way including final 200m when all were pursuing her hard. Ran slow time but has gears.

MAJARA (Harbour Watch-Magestique) I'll be backing this filly when she runs. Sat 6-wide all way, and wasn't even shaken up yet still prevailed in useful time. Very smart.

FLORID (Commands-Calle Flora) went hard early while tracking wide and not let go at any stage down running yet still ran strongly through line in good time. Is Black Type bound.

TOGA PICTA (Lonhro-Purple) looks very good. Time was slow but he was wide all way and was really only urged along final 150m - and he flew when given his head to run 2nd. Saturday grade.
