Tatura Barrier Trial Blackbookers January 16 - horses to follow from the Victorian barrier trials

  • Lady Bithiah most impressive
  • A few unraced horses to follow
  • 7 horses to put in the black book

There were 14 trials on a Good 4 track at Tatura on Tuesday, January 16, and a few stood out as potential next start winners.

Jot these names down in your black book and hopefully enjoy a nice collect as they start to filter through in the next couple of weeks.

Trial 1 (850m) 50.13
LADY BITHIAH brained them in the opening heat and the second quickest time of the nine 850m heats. Trained by Adrian Corboy at Wangaratta, the two-year-old daughter of Moshe was tested in the Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) at Flemington on debut but finished 15 lengths last before going for a break. She showed brilliant early speed to lead in the trial and then kicked clear to score comfortably while also being eased right down with 50m to go. Will certainly be winning races based on that performance.

Trial 2 (850m) 51.47
LIL' BIT SASSY led throughout to win this heat and looked impressive as she kicked on the turn and was full of running. She finished 2nd to Sun Quan at Tatura on debut over 1100m before disappointing and then heading for a spell. Has come back in good order and should be breaking through this preparation.

Trial 3 (850m) 50.84
The unraced BEAUTIFUL BEE finished 2nd in a barrier trial back in July 2017, and then scored impressively in this trial. A provincial maiden around 1000m seems the right starting point.

Trial 5 (850m) 50.34
SAM’S IMAGE has a very big tick next to his name – a win over the highly-talented Nature Strip. He showed great racing manners in this heat and that will take him a long way. After leading from the outset, he was taken on but stayed relaxed and settled into 2nd place before getting to the outside and really hitting the line hard under soft riding.

Trial 6 (850m) 49.55
The quickest heat was won by WHAT GIRLS WANT who got out to a big lead and went to the line with her ears pricked. The lightly-raced six-year-old appears to be going better than ever so stick with her this time in.

Trial 9 (850m) 51.38
A very soft victory for WIN ALERT who is still a maiden following six starts. Blinkers off may have done the trick and I’d be following her into her first-up run.

Trial 13 (1100m) 1:04.10
This was more of a race than a barrier trial. The Lindsay Park runner, MUTAMAYEL, settled well back in the field and was stoked up at the 600m where he charged around them and battled to the line to score narrowly. All horses in this heat were given a hard hit-out, and that should really bring on the winner who is going well.
