With yet another round of the big wet due to hit Sydney from Tuesday night onwards all the way up to Saturday's Group 1 Golden Slipper day, it pleased trainers and owners alike that the big set of barrier trials at Rosehill got done before the rain came.
They were conducted on a softish track but in sunshine on Monday morning.
Here are the stand out performances to Black Book.
SWEET CHESTNUT - given time to find her feet early and was 2nd last to the bend in her 1030m trial. Got through along the rails to grab lead near line and the significant thing as she placed second, was that Tye Angland didn't move on her. Is a Class 1 runner and looks to be back even better.
UP'N'ROLLING - is a Kiwi over here for some better prizemoney and will earn some if this trial is any indication. Sat back and wide and came home resolutely to just win trial without being asked for huge effort. Is a Class 1 galloper who can win at mid week level.
LIFE LESS ORDINARY - was beaten 10 lengths in 1030m trial but is clearly a staying type. Hails from Britain and is expected to race through the mid week staying grades.
FATHER'S DELIGHT - is an unraced bush 3YO but sat 3-deep in this trial over 1030m and just kept coming final stages to grab 2nd in fast time. Should be winning Goulburn maiden off that.
LATITUDE - maiden galloper with talent and loads of early dash. Speared out of the gates and led until final stages without being ridden out in decent 900m open trial. Will win provincial maiden off that.
VAIN ELAINE - certain to win provincial Class 1 off this trial. Just sat back and smoked pipe and was beaten less than 4 lengths by speedsters. Stayer with talent.
IN TIMES OF WAR - looked brilliant. Daisy-cut her way to victory under a strangle hold. Ran good time too and looks a winner at least up to mid week grade. Liked it a lot.
ALL CARISMA - maiden galloper who raced along very keenly establishing a big lead and had ears pricked. Throttled down near home to win trial. Wins for fun at the provincials.
GUIPURE (Domeday-Languin) may not be a world-beater but sat back in trial and made very solid ground late against horses who were all getting to the line powerfully. Looks ready made provincial 2YO winner.
GRINCH (Hinchinbrook-Skyescent) looks to be handy. Sat 3-deep all way and came home without being pushed out for 2nd in fast run trial. Yet to race but is a ready made racehorse capable at provincial level early in career.
MEROVEE (Frankel-More Strawberries) wow. Impecabbly bred and looks well up to his breeding. Just exploded when given his head to win his trial running away. Looks likely to get over ground too. Loved the trial.
