  • Chautauqua looks back
  • But did we see the 2017 Golden Slipper winner trial.....hmmm
Is this son of Not A Single Doubt the next Slipper winner - Condor Heroes looked awesome

The set of barrier trials this week at Rosehill gardens featured WINX and some buddies.

But there were 15 other trials and a host of potential winners emerged.

Here's a sampling of the most eye-catching runs.

Older Horses

ENDLESS DRAMA: this might be a very exciting stayer. Ambled up to leader and held ground late for great 2nd in 1000m open trial. Keep an eye on this bloke.

CAPTAIN DUFFY: went to line under a nice hold when 3rd in strong trial. Bound to benefit a great deal and is ready to pull off a surprise first up.

KUNMING: was last at only race start. But this is a completely different horse. Led at a nice bat, then coursed wide and still ran through line, while being throttled down. Maiden winner first up for sure.

AMERICA: might be looking for a little ground as he came home stoutly without being pushed for 3rd over 1030m. Well bred, is a maiden and has some talent.

CHAUTAUQUA: was keen as all the way in this 900m trial. Settled just off the pace and unleashed under a big hold late. May be back to his best.

STAR TURN: won 900m trial most impressively. Under a full-nelson all way yet still out-sprinted a strong field. Is very smart.

KATSWIRI: may be a better mare than form indicates. Came home quickly under a strangle hold in fast run 900m trial for close up 4th. Eligible for provincial Class 2 - but off this run is city grade.

COCOEXCEL: is very speedy and seems much stronger this time up. Led all way to win 900m trial in fast time and should convert that to racetrack success.

ROSA CAROLINA: looks to have come up way better than last campaign. Not let go until final 50m and rocketed home in 900m trial. Watch.

Two-Year-Olds

ALL TOO SOON (All Too Hard-Gallant Tess) beautifully bred and showed outstanding speed to lead all way. Really quickened and put a space on them as they turned. Has wheels. Yet to race.

EPIDEMIC (LONHRO-MNEMOSYNE) it's easy to see why Godolphin rate this well bred filly. Never out of a canter when 2nd in strong 900m trial. Is Black Type bound.

ALIZEE (Sepoy-Essaouira) giant of a filly with huge strides and a motor. Ran home strongly, but was urged to do so, in fast run trial over 900m to win. Has talent.

TIKI BAR (Sepoy-Key Bar Knights) won 900m trial in slow time but to be fair, did race wide, was midfield to the bend and wasn't asked to stretch out final stages. May be very good.

SANCTIONED (Teofilo-Aforethought) not sure why, but if I didn't know better I would swear Godolphin was hiding this bloke's talent. Looked amazing for about 200m then asked to shut down completely when 3rd in 900m trial. Watch him VERY closely.

CONDOR HEROES (Not A Single Doubt-Gosetgo) this may be best 2YO in the land. Toyed with these and will do so when produced also. Outstanding!

CATESBY (Shamardal-Mannington) beat one home, but only asked to run last 100m. Looks quality midweek class.
