Randwick Barrier Trials Monday - Black Book this lot

  • Handfast, Slow Burn and Deprive will win when produced

A big set of important barrier trials were conducted at Randwick under beautiful sunshine on Monday morning of this week.

Track in excellent condition too.

Older Horses

SLOW BURN (Les Bridge) You may want to put this name down in your Black Book. She sat 3-wide all the way, on a good pace, yet just went bang when they turned for home and won as she liked. Is a Class 1 galloper, but daisy cuts along, conserving her power then unleashes. Is up to Saturday city grade.

ZONK (Les Bridge) Is another who impressed, this one showing great gate speed to lead all way and win her open 1050m trial with ears pricked. is a Class 1 galloper too and is far, far better than that grade. Was impressive.

SEBRING BAY (Gai and Adrian) Has yet to race but has talent. Sat wide in her 1050m maiden trial and cruised to lead half way down running before being allowed to coast home final stages. Time was average and she was run down, but had a lot in the tank.

DEPRIVE (James Cummings) sat a mile back in quick maiden 1050m trial and was also carrying most weight. Came rocketing home and probably broke 34sec final 600m. Ended up 4th but the run was first grade for a maiden.

HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL (Mark Newnham) Came with a wet sail to run down leader final 100m of maiden 1050m trial. Was backed off final 75m and coasted to line. Looks ready to go the provincials and win. Is unraced.

HANDFAST (James Cummings) This is a quality sprinter who may have come back a tad better than last campaign. Just sat and stalked fast run 735m open trial and ran 5th, after finding backsides all the way down straight. Looks ready to win.

BIRDSONG (James Cummings) Is still a maiden but if this trial is any indicator, wont be for long. Got back mid field in a 735m trial and finished it off very handsomely to get 3rd under a firm grip. Likes it longer so is nearly ready to win first up.

SEINE NET (James Cummings) Is eligible for a provincial maiden and if I see him in - I'll be having a good go. Hit line like a smart horse to win trial comfortably and in useful time.

BOOROOJ (Team Snowden) Just sat well back off slick tempo in maiden 735m trial and sat wide also. This huge filly then wasn't allowed full leather in straight and under restraint finished 6th. Will win when produced.

Two-Year-Olds

CRISTOBAL (Exceed and Excel-Status Quo) This James Cummings-trained filly ran 3rd in this trial but could have won as easily as she pleased. Just did everything right, trucked up in 3rd spot all way and was stretching out under a hold late. Saturday city grade filly.

MISS INVINCIBLE (I Am Invincible-Abound) Bjorn Baker-trained filly who looks super swift. Isn't very big, but boy can she get out and go. Led all way to win this trial in good style and in very fast time.
