Randwick Barrier Trials - Winx wasn't only one that impressed

  • Winx was awesome
  • Comin' Through looked super
  • A bunch of juveniles trialled like bombs
Trekking winning his trial: big campaign coming up but 3rd horse, Usurp, was most impressive too

The barrier trials at Randwick on the morning of 24 July, gave us a glimpse into a bright future.

There were future winners going around....none of course bigger or better than the champ WINX.

But here are a few others who will be winning shortly.

Older Horses

COMIN' THROUGH: stalked lead all way in star-studded field and looked awesome under a full-nelson all the way to the line.

ANTONIO GUISEPPE: sat at the tail of the field in a strong 900m trial, not being allowed to go hard at any stage. Looking like he'd improved from last campaign.

REFUGE BAY: this was interesting. He closed off very impressively final 150m of a 1050m open trial and looked very smart - yet he's only a BM 55 bush horse. Will pay to follow.

ETYMOLOGY: this bloke hasn't raced for over a year but he'll be winning Black Type this time up. Outside of Winx earlier in the day, this was the most impressive as he sat 3-deep all the way under a grip and cruised home, making ground.

Two-Year-Olds

I'M A LEGEND (Nicconi-Is Amazing) this bloke might be pretty handy. Is with Les Bridge and is unraced but sat off tempo in a very fast run trial and motored home looking at ease to grab 2nd. This was impressive work as he came home between runners.

CUBA (All Too Hard-Tabasco Kitten) still a maiden after 2 runs but he wont be for much longer. Sat wide in fast trial and was making good ground late without really being shaken up. Looks Saturday city grade easily.

MARISHKA (Exceed and Excel-Bahia) not about to say this unraced filly is a world beater but I do suspect she has enough talent to win, and probably win early. Sat wide and worked home nicely without being puished for 4th here.

MALAHAT (Exceed and Excel-Raspberries) this bloke looks ready made. Has pace and wasn't asked to extend down the running while others were yet ran a great 2nd. Looks to have stakes talent.

MY ZEBRINKA (Zoffany-Memoirs) led all way after being a little slow from the gates in this and it was a very strong trial with Veranillo and Bullet Shot both running cracking trials in it also. But this unraced colt jjust led on his ear and held them all at bay with something up his sleeve. Get on when you see him in.

TREKKING (Street Cry-Planet Rock) won trial under a hold and time was useful. But the way he did it caught me eye. Sat 3 wide all way and was clicked up just as they straightened. Nothing else. looks really smart.

USURP (Lonhro-Pretends) is yet to race and in fact this was his first trial. Finished 3rd but will derive enormous benefit from it. Looks very smart.
