Morphettville Barrier Trial Blackbookers January 29 - horses to follow from the South Australian trials

  • 6 to follow
  • McEvoy stable dominates the trials

A total of 11 barrier trial heats where run and won at Morphettville Parks on Monday, January 29, where a few stood out as potential winners and can be followed in their upcoming assignments.

Here are my horses to follow from the Morphettville barrier trials:

Trial 1 (1000m) 58.400
This could be the preparation for GOLDEN BUCKLEBOO who finished 4th in the opening heat. He was restrained to go back and find cover from the wide gate where he settled in 6th place. He was pushed out early in the straight and kept up with the classy Riziz and Benz before being eased up with 50m to go. He’s a 62-rater who is looking for more ground, but the way he kept up with the good horses suggest he’s going well and can be followed this campaign. Trainer David Aldridge did test him in a $100,000 race before going for a spell, and despite failing, he must have been starting to put it all together.

Trial 2 (1000m) 1:00.620
A quality juvenile from the Tony McEvoy yard with LAST VEIN winning by a big space. The time wasn’t overly quick but the way the daughter of Unencumbered came off heels and skipped away to win by eight lengths was very impressive.

Trial 3 (1000m) 59.700
Another one for McEvoy with Spirit Of Boom filly KINKY BOOM winning by 8.5 lengths in quicker time than her stablemate in the previous heat. Was asked for an effort in the straight but still  had more to offer.

Trial 4 (1000m) 59.710
Surprise, Surprise! McEvoy again with the Pierro filly PIERRO BELLE. The winning margin was only 2.5 lengths but this filly was the most impressive of the trio. She sat three wide without cover and was under a stranglehold as she cruised to the line in good time.

Trial 7 (1000m) 59.920
The 3rd placed MAZUREK was a clear standout in this heat. The lightly-raced five-year-old mare covered plenty of ground out four and five wide and was pushed out for a few strides before being eased up before she sailed past them. Has won and finished runner-up in two first-up runs and has come back in great order.

Trial 9 (1000m) 59.280
TAKEMEHOMEMISTER showed enough in his first campaign to suggest he has some talent when defeating Evolutionist at his second run before disappointing at Caulfield in a $100,000 race. Formerly with Hawkes Racing, the Denman gelding now resides at Tony McEvoy’s stable and was guided to a trial victory by Jamie Kah. He did it easy to win by 4.5 lengths and can followed this time in.
