Rosehill Barrier Trials Blackbookers - July 9

  • Godolphin import HOME OF THE BRAVE steals the limelight at first Aussie trial
Home Of The Brave easily winning Aussie debut trial

A very important and much watched set of barrier trials was held on Monday morning at Rosehill Gardens.

Group 1 horses and imports all stepped out. Here are the top runs.
Older Horses

SOUCHEZ: sat back in fast run trial and just powered home under restraint. Looked very classy running 3rd and is ready to win.

CONDOR HEROES: took control of rider and shot 10 lengths away mid stages of his trial. Was throttled down last 200m and still won by 5 lengths in fast time. Looks a natural flying machine.

BULLETSON: is eligible for a country Class 1 but showed good finishing power in strong 1030m trial to grab 4th. Look for him at the provincials.

EGYPTIAN SYMBOL: sat back near last in 904m trial then under a good hold roared home covering final 250m in blazing time. Looks back better than ever off this trial.

KEMENTARI: missed kick by 2 lengths, sat out the back and was never asked to raise even as much as a gallop final 200m yet finished off trial in 5th spot. Wow!

HOME OF THE BRAVE: is a Group 3 winning import for Godolphin and he destroyed this field in fast time. Carries his head high, and came around turn 6 wide before just racing away under Huge Bowman and won by a minute. looks very smart.

AVILIUS: another Godoplhin import, this one is a stayer and this was a very nice trial. Ran last mind you over 904m, but was under throttle hold. May not win first up but he has a load of ability and looks a stakes horse.

WAY WE GO: is a 6YO and has had just 3 runs, but he has soooo much ability. Sat just off pace in fast run trial and was the eye-opener running 3rd. Not raced since 2015. Watch his progress closely.

STAR OF THE SEAS: looks Saturday city grade. Won this 903m trial in useful time, after travelling wide and throttled down final 250m. Might even be headed for stakes grade. Is a maiden at the moment. Watch his progress. Is with Chris Waller.

2YOS

DANAWI (Exceed and Excel-Secret Admirer) this may be a really smart colt. Is already looking for further than the 1030m trial he won here by sitting outside leader then forging away late. Is a maiden but is very talented.

TIMID (Albrecht-Bashful) maiden filly who sat back and closed most impressively late for strong 2nd in 904m trial. Looks a sure fire winner soon at the provincials.

QUENYA (Sepoy-Eldarin) sat a mile back in fast run trial and zipped home late to grab 3rd. Eye-catching effort as she has not raced yet and looks ready to do so.

BANDOL (Snitzel-Miss match) is unraced but is very fast and won this trial in good time, racing away late. Looks ready made. Gai and Adrian train.

ALTAIR (Zoustar-Rossarita) is a maiden but was cantering at the end of this trial under Hughie Bowman and wound up 2nd in useful time. Looks a provincial winner, maybe even midweek.

AMICUS AGRIPPA (Star Witness-Danrory) is yet to race but has talent. Sat on fence behind the speed in a fast run trial, was was doing nice work at the end to grab 2nd without really being asked. Hard to gauge just how good he is but he ticks a fair few boxes.

BUCEPHALUS (Redoute's Choice-Miss Stellabelle) is a Team Hawkes-trained colt who is yet to race but shows dazzling speed and hung tough to just win this trial. Time was ordinary which is a worry but he did the job.
