Gawler Barrier Trial Blackbookers November 10 - horses to follow from the South Australian trials

  • Rebel Romance most impressive
  • 3 horses to put in the black book

A total of eight barrier trial heats were conducted on a Good 4 track at Gawler on Friday, November 10.

A few stood out as potential winners and can be followed in their upcoming assignments.

Here are my horses to follow from the Gawler barrier trials:

Trial 1 (1000m) 1:01.56
They didn’t go quick in this trial but the way BAKER’S DOZEN worked home from last to score was impressive. The lightly-raced six-year-old mare is having her second campaign since joining the Will Clarken stable, and she looks to have come back in great order. She settled in last place, was widest on the bend and simply cruised to the line as she passed the field. She went well fresh last campaign so stick with her from her first-up run.

Trial 4 (1000m) 1:02.81
The Tony McEvoy-trained Rahee won this heat in even slower time than the first trial but it was the stablemate REBEL ROMANCE that impressed most. The unraced daughter of Rebel Raider was well back throughout and wanted to go quicker, and despite being hard held throughout, she towed herself up into 2nd place and looked most impressive. Might need longer but some of these Rebel Raider progeny can be sharp over the shorter trips when fresh.

Trial 5 (1000m) 1:01.94
Another one from the McEvoy stable with BENDETHERA finishing in 4th place. The son of Denman led throughout and was hard held in the straight as others were put under pressure to go past. He was tested at Flemington in a $100,000 race at just his second start so the stable must have an opinion of him.
