Gawler Barrier trial blackbookers October 13 - horses to follow from the Gawler barrier trials

  • 5 horses for the black book
  • Vinland given an easy time but looked good

There were 10 barrier trials conducted on the Soft 5 track at Gawler on Friday, October 1, and a few stood out as potential upcoming winners.

Here are some to throw in the black book:

Trial 4 (1000m) 1:02.84
The Tony McEvoy-trained VINLAND is unplaced in two career runs but obviously has potential. The Sepoy colt finished five lengths off the pace on debut at Sandown before being freshened and finishing six lengths from She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) on a Heavy track. He trialled impressively in March and must have had a problem before spending another 30 weeks spelling. Jamie Kah was aboard for the trial where he finished 4th and was never put under pressure. Did it easier than the rest and can break through this campaign.

Trial 5 (1000m) 1:02.45
An interesting heat this one. Tony McEvoy’s unraced Ad Valorem  gelding LAURE ME IN jumped best but handed up the lead and settled well before taking over at the top of the straight and coming away to score. The runner-up, RUSTYDUSTYSUNSHINE, has done nothing in four starts to date but was the one to take over and lead before being put in a headlock down the straight. Jockey Amy Herrmann did her best to restrain the grey filly, and although she was well beaten by Laure Me In, she beat the rest of the field by a space.

Trial 6 (1000m) 1:03.50
Another one for McEvoy and Kah with the unraced Street Cry gelding MADE IN RUSSIA winning this heat. Purchased by China Horse Club, he looked a bit green and has plenty to learn, but has ability and should measure up in the right race.

Trial 8 (1000m) 1:03.50
Lloyd Kennewell has a bit of experience with the progeny of I Am Invincible, and he looks to have a decent one in VIA BALCIANO. The unraced four-year-old gelding settled at the rear and worked into the trial strongly with Joe Bowditch aboard. Looks a nice type.
