Avoca Barrier Trial Black Bookers June 13 - horses to follow from the Victorian trials

  • Poseidon’s Pool most impressive
  • All races hand-timed

A big morning of barrier trials saw 17 heats conducted on a Good 3 track at Avoca on Tuesday, June 13.

A few stood out as potential winners and can be followed in their upcoming assignments.

Here are my horses to follow from the Avoca barrier trials:

Note: no electronic times where available so the author has hand-timed each race.

Trial 3 (700m) 42.81
The Darren Weir-trained POSEIDON’S POOL was a little slow to begin but quickly mustered speed to take up the running and go on to win in the quickest 700m heat of the morning. The son of Pierro is out of the smart mare Kulgrinda and seeing the way he did it so easy, he looks to have a bright future ahead.

Trial 5 (700m) 43.28
DOTHRAKI PRINCESS jumped very smartly and led throughout for a comfortable victory without too much pressure being applied. The daughter of Lope de Vega has raced well in Tasmania and can find a suitable event to make her Victorian debut a successful one.

Trial 13 (1100m) 1:08.61
SUPERVELOCE finished second last in this heat but was warming up strongly late. He’s won his last two starts over 1350m and 1600m and looks set to bring up the hat-trick in a suitable event.

Trial 14 (1100m) 1:08.55
KING WAY and Condamine really put a gap on the field in the straight and the former went home best to score. The French-import is yet to break through in Australia but did run some good placings in BM70 and 78 company last campaign. Look for him when he gets out to 1600m and beyond.

Trial 16 (1100m) 1:07.95
SKILLED HUNTER was closing quickly late and looks ready to go. Weir sent him for a spell following his maiden win at his third start, and he looks to have returned in good order.
