Who will ride Winx?

Brenton Avdulla is favourite to land the ride on star mare Winx in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick on February 17 should Hugh Bowman fail in his bid to overturn a suspension.

Bowman has been the man on board Chris Waller's Winx for 20 of her 22 straight wins, but he is set to miss the ride in the Apollo Stakes after receiving an 11 meeting suspension after causing interference at Warwick Farm on Australia Day at Warwick Farm and a further ban when riding at the Karaka Million meeting at Ellerslie in New Zealand.

Bowman has appealed both suspensions, but if he doesn't manage to overturn the decision it is Avdulla who is favourite to deputise as Winx chases her 23rd straight win in the Apollo.

Premiership leader Avdulla is $2.50 with bookmaker Sportsbet for the call-up ahead of Glyn Schofield, who is $3.60 to ride the champion mare when she is scheduled to resume.

Blake Shinn is also one of the top fancies to take over as the rider of Winx and is the $4.40 third pick in the betting to gain the nod over some of Sydney’s top jockeys.

Jason Collett is the only other jockey at single figure odds at $5.00 ahead of Tye Angland at $13. Any other jockey is also priced at $13.

Collett, Tommy Berry and Larry Cassidy have all won on the mare during her career.
