Riders go round the track in the Australian Derby

Day 2 of The Championships takes place at Royal Randwick on Saturday, April 14, with more than $10 million in prizemoney up for grabs on the 10-race programme.

The $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) will be the highlight of the day, while the Sydney Cup (3200m), Australian Oaks (2400m) and Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) showcase Sydney Group 1 racing at its best.

If you need some punting advice for the mammoth day of racing, look no further than our expert race-by-race guide and in-depth Group 1 previews:

The Championships Day 2 Randwick Tips:

Race 1 - CHINA HORSE CLUB MILE (1600m) 11:25am

A tough race to start the day with absolutely no confidence in any particular runner. ARISTOCRATIC MISS has been around the mark in each start except when she was 4.5 lengths from Written By in the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m). Of the Hayes and Dabernig trio, MUSWELLBROOK was impressive beating the fancied stablemate Gheedaa by 1.75 lengths while it was another four lengths back to 3rd. The Denman gelding has plenty of upside and will have no trouble running the trip based on his latest effort. BOLD ARIEL has strong form around Pure Elation who was runner-up in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) and Joao Moreira goes aboard. CRISTAL EYES in for 4th.

First 4:
Aristocratic Miss
Muswellbrook
Bold Ariel
Cristal Eyes

Race 2 - THE AGENCY SOUTH PACIFIC CLASSIC (1400m) 12:05pm

ISAURIAN won his first two starts before narrowly being defeated by the in-form I Am Excited last start. He’s bred to improve over a bit more ground and the step up to 1400m looks ideal. TORVILL had solid Group form between 1200m and 1600m in his first three runs this campaign before failing over 2000m in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) last start. The sharp drop back in trip is a concern but trainer Clarry Conners knows what he’s doing. RENEWAL was far from disgraced in the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) and should be thereabouts, as will SPARKY LAD who can bounce back from a disappointing effort where he was slow to recover after the race and may have needed the run.

First 4:
Isaurian
Torvill
Renewal
Sparky Lad

Race 3 - 360 DMG PERCY SYKES STAKES (1200m) 12:40pm

I think SETSUNA can bounce back after a couple of disappointing efforts this autumn – she’s better than that. She’s since been given a 28-day break and was very strong at the end of a recent 900m barrier trial PURE ELATION was 2nd to subsequent Golden Slipper winner Estijaab and then scored in maiden company by two lengths last time – but it was a strong maiden. She’s drawn perfectly and can threaten ahead of FIESTA and CRISTOBAL.

First 4:
Setsuna
Pure Elation
Fiesta
Cristobal

Race 4 - POLYTRACK PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FINAL (1400m) 1:15pm

The wide barrier looks like the biggest obstacle for JUST DREAMING who was only one length from Daysee Doom in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) last start. She dropped back to 1400m when fourth-up last campaign and was narrowly defeated by Invincibella. That form looks strong enough - to make her the best chance on the programme – besides Winx obviously. A real battle for the minor prizes with MANHATTAN MIST, BON AMIS and PRINCESS POSH being among the main chances.

First 4:
Just Dreaming
Manhattan Mist
Bon Amis
Pricess Posh

Race 5 - ARROWFIELD 3YO SPRINT (1200m) 1:50pm

HOUTZEN ran good time (1:08.64) when winning the PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) last start which was run two lengths slower than the TJ Smith Stakes. That puts her performance on par with Redzel who finished two lengths from Trapeze Artist. She now drops 1.5kg and looks like sharing the lead with Booker without any pressure from anything else. She was defeated by the flying I Am Excited two starts back, but now meets that galloper 2.5kg better at the weights and has fitness on her side. BOOKER is tough, and she can battle away for 2nd while I AM EXCITED and VIRIDINE flash home for the minor prizes.

First 4:
Houtzen
Booker
I Am Excited
Viridine

Race 6 - JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM AUSTRALIAN OAKS (2400m) 2:25pm

First 4:
Savvy Coup
Unforgotten
Hiyaam
Luvaluva

Race 7 - LONGINES QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES (2000m) 3:05pm

First 4:
Winx
Ambitious
Humidor
Gailo Chop

Race 8 - SCHWEPPES SYDNEY CUP (3200m) 3:45pm

First 4:
Who Shot Thebarman
Aloft
Pre Stwick
Almandin

Race 9 - COOLMORE LEGACY STAKES (1600m) 4:25pm

First 4:
Prompt Response
Spanish Reef
Silent Sedition
Dixie Blossoms

Race 10 - TAB SAPPHIRE STAKES (1200m) 5:05pm

QUILISTA led throughout last start and I can’t see them changing that tactic from barrier 13. SUGAR BELLA had every chance to run her down but couldn’t despite sitting closer than usual. She’s likely to go back further from the wide gate so I can’t see her getting to Quilist, but she can still rocket home for second. INVINCIBELLA beat Osbourne Bulls first-up last campaign and should enjoy a soft run from barrier 5, while SPRIGHT can also figure in the finish from gate 7.

First 4:
Quilista
Sugar Bella
Invincibella
Spright
