Outgoing RV CEO - Terry Bailey

Rumours turned to reality on Monday as Racing Victoria’s (RV) chief steward Terry Bailey announced he was resigning from the top position.

Bailey, who took on the role in 2008, will officially finish up on July 11 to concentrate on his next position, that of Chairman of Stewards in Singapore.

AAP reports that the current Chairman of Stewards in Singapore, Peter Chadwick is returning to Australia to lead the stewards panel in Queensland, replacing Allan Reardon who is leaving at the end of the season.

Chief Executive of RV, Giles Thompson, paid tribute to Bailey’s services.

"Terry has given tremendous service to Racing Victoria for more than a decade and he has our support and best wishes as he embarks on the exciting next chapter of his career abroad," Thompson said.

"Terry is highly respected for his unwavering focus on administering the Rules of Racing and ensuring that all participants and customers can compete on a level playing field."

Thompson said Jamie Steir, RV’s executive general manager-Integrity Services would head the search to find Bailey’s successor.

During his time in the top job, Bailey earned himself a reputation on both sides of the fence, living by something he once said,

“Stewarding, it’s not a popularity contest. They can like you or hate you but as long as I go away with them saying, ‘he was a hard bugger but he was fair’… well, that will do me.”

History will always show he was certainly hard at times, but was he also fair ?

Trainer Danny O'Brien took to social media to leave his thoughts on the departure....
