A second set of nominations have been taken for the 2017 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick after the original race was sensationally abandoned.

While most where eased out of the race after it’s midrace abandonment on April 8, six gallopers continued to be ridden out to the line.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Godolphin pair, Polarisation and Penglai Pavillion, finished 1st and 3rd past the post respectively and are nominated to line up again this Saturday.

However, Polarisation was found to have heat in a fetlock over the weekend and will undergo a veterinarian examination on Tuesday morning despite X-rays and an ultrasound giving him the all-clear.

Chance To Dance, who was splitting the Godolphin duo in 2nd, and Adelaide Cup winner (3200m) Annus Mirabilis (4th) who was a few lengths back, are also entered for the rerun.

Darren Weir’s in-form stayer Big Duke, who started favourite for the ill-fated renewal of the Sydney Cup, is also among nominations.

Chris Waller’s Who Shot Thebarman was the horse that fell after Almoonqith broke down in front of him last fortnight, yet he is entered along with stablemates Kinema and Libran who were eased out of the race earlier.

New nominations for the second running of the 2017 staying feature include Lasquetti Spirit, last start Caulfield winner Boom Time, Rock On and Self Sense.
