Star colt Doubt I’m Dreaming dies at Trackwork

Jackson Oldham in Latest News 28 Jun 2017
  • Doubt I'm Dreaming has passed away at Trackwork on Tuesday Morning

Very promising two-year-old Colt Doubt I’m Dreaming as suffered what appeared to be a heart attack at Trackwork on Tuesday Morning.

It was business as usual for the John McArdle trained galloper before the incident. The Colt showed no abnormalities.

“I was watching him canter around quietly like he normally does... I turned my head away to watch another horse, when I looked back he’d stopped and become staggery and by the time I had run down to the horse he was on the ground and died shortly after.” McArdle told Racing.com.

Doubt I’m Dreaming was sent out a 12/1 chance on debut, with John McArdle throwing him in the deep end against class two-year-olds with experience. McArdle knew exactly what he was doing, with the two-year-old Colt having the potential to be the best horse McArdle had ever trained.

The Colt by Not A Single Doubt blew the likes of Showtime and Muraaqeb away on debut winning by three lengths. He failed second-up at Caulfield, not showing the turn of foot that was so devastating on debut. Both John McArdle and Jockey Jamie Mott said the horse came to the end of Its preparation and the racing fraternity was excited to see the Colt back in the Spring.

Doubt I'm Dreaming was a $15 third-favourite for the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in October.

John McArdle was putting things into perspective following the passing of rider Donna Philopot at Trackwork on Tuesday in Bendigo.

"It's upsetting and very unfortunate and a big loss for a small stable like ours to lose a horse of his calibre but as I said to the owners yesterday, in the light of what happened yesterday my track rider and all of our staff went home safe and unfortunately up at Bendigo Donna Philpot didn't.” McArdle told Racing.com.
