Talented Adelaide jockey Jamie Kah will take part in a Jockey’s Challenge Series in New Zealand this month.

Kah has been invited to join Damien Lane and Jason Collett in an all-Australian International team who will be competing against three rival teams at the Jockeys’ World Cup Prelude meeting at Ellerslie on December 13.

Kah will take part in the event at the expense of Blake Shinn who was suspended for careless riding during last Friday night’s Canterbury meeting.

Adelaide’s reigning premier jockey is going from strength to strength after sewing up last season’s jockey premiership. Just two weeks ago, Kah rode five of the eight winners at the Morphettville meeting and finished second on her other two mounts.

This season Kah has already set a clear lead in the jockey’s premiership riding 23 winners to date, seven clear of Todd Pannell currently in second place with Jason Holder in third place on 12 wins.

Of the other competing teams, the New Zealand group are represented by a who’s who of NZ racing. Their team is Matt Cameron, Chris Johnson and Jason Waddell who are three of the top 10 riders currently on show across the Tasman.

There is also an apprentice’s team consisting of Australian rider Ben Allen and NZ riders Shaun McKay and current leading apprentice Sam Weatherly.

Topping off the challenge is an all female team with a ‘family affair’ feeling around it. Samantha Collett teams up with her cousin Alysha and they are joined by another leading rider in Danielle Johnson who is sitting on 27 winners this season, equal sixth in the NZ premiership. Alysha’s brother Jason (Samantha’s cousin) is with Jamie in the International team line-up.

The challenge will be held over the six races on the program that day. The riders will have their mounts randomly selected for each of them. They will then accumulate points across all six races.
