Nash Rawiller - Disqualified

Former Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller has been handed a 15 month ban from the Hong Kong Jockey Club for riding anywhere in the world after being found guilty of breaching betting regulations.

The stewards stood down the high profile jockey on Wednesday after an enquiry found the 48-year-old rider guilty of participating in illegal betting and for receiving benefits from providing tips to other parties. Rawiller did not enter a plea on either of the two charges.

The punishment handed down was two disqualifications of 15 months which will be served concurrently.

Stewards began the enquiry on Tuesday after receiving a report from the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s (HKJC) integrity department. They had also spoken with Rawiller earlier that day.

AAP reports that the stewards’ findings were posted on the HKJC’s website saying...

“There was no evidence before the stewards that N Rawiller had ridden any horse in Hong Kong with the intention other than to obtain the best possible placing for the horse.

“Further, the evidence before the stewards was that N Rawiller had only tipped horses ridden by him and never horses he had ridden against”.

The HKJC executive director Andrew Harding announced that overseas racing authorities had been notified and no further comment would be made.
Rawiller has been riding in Hong Kong for four years and was currently sitting third in the jockey’s premiership with 40 winners to his credit.

The ban imposed will see Rawiller out of the saddle until late July 2019.
