Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Tips and Preview - Pierata has everything in his favour

  • Pierata should land in the box seat.
  • At peak fitness now and will prove hard to beat.

It’s hard to see Pierata being beaten in Saturday’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) if he holds his form from last start.

Trained by Gregory Hickman, the son of Pierro was an impressive winner first-up over 1200m at Doomben winning in a time of 1:09.080 on a Good 4.

He then finished a close 2nd to Whypeeo at the same track and trip in 1:09.020 on a Good 3, but after being slow to begin and charging home late, the effort was still very good.

Hickman stepped him up to 1350m in the Vo Rogue Plate where he was caught wide early and had to drift back to try and find cover before exploding in the straight and going on to score an emphatic 2.5-length victory.

The extra trip is what he needed last time and the extra 50m on Saturday should also suit as he jumps from barrier 1 with regular rider Corey Brown aboard.

Whypeeo will have little choice but to try and lead from barrier 16, and with a fairly even early speed among the rest of the field, Pierata is likely to land right behind the leader of three pairs back at worse.

He’s a horse that is willing to force his way out of a pocket – as he did last time – so the possibility of being caught three back on the rail isn’t a negative.

He’ll save every ounce of energy throughout the run before pushing clear at the top of the straight and letting down strongly.

Chris Waller’s Calculated has impressed and can be included in the multiples, as can impressive last start winner Sasso Corbaro.
