Hugh Bowman - recovers after fall

Leading Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman came off Performer in bizarre fall in the Todman Stakes but suffered no major injuries.

Bowman seemed to lose control at the 200m mark and came off with the horse veering towards the outside fence and continued to run with the field past the winning post.

Bowman lie motionless on the track briefly but by the time paramedics arrived he was conscious and sitting up. He was stood down for the rest of the day and excused from riding at Sunday’s Canberra Cup meeting.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution and for treatment.

Bowman was discharged from hospital late on Sunday afternoon and returned home suffering a few minor cuts and bruises and a slight concussion.

Although back home and recovering from the experience, it is still unknown whether he will be passed fit to ride this coming weekend on Coolmore Classic day at Rosehill.

The decision could be to remain out of the saddle until the following weekend. This is Golden Slipper day at Rosehill and it is hoped that Bowman will be fully recovered by then and fit to ride Winx as the mare shoots for 24 straight wins in the Group One George Ryder Stakes.
