Horses To Follow - 3 Horses to follow from the racing at Rosehill and Moonee Valley on Saturday June 17

Catch That Cat won Race 9 at Moonee Valley but much of the post race discussion centred around the performance of Leodoro

Racing was at Rosehill and Moonee Valley on Saturday June 17 and we have reviewed the runs at the respective venues, picking out three to keep an eye on in the next couple of months.

Here are our blackbookers from June 17.

Rosehill Race 1 - 11:25AM TAB HANDICAP (1350 METRES)- Hualalai

The two-year-olds lined up in the opening event of the day at Rosehill and one that can be forgiven is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Hualalai, who finished 2nd to the Godolphin galloper, Gaulois. Lining up as a $3.80 chance, Hualalai jumped awkwardly and had to settle to the rear, against his usual forward pattern of racing. The son of Street Cry then had to work out wide to find his way into the race and layed in as he tried to haul in the eventual winner in the straigh. Despite those battles, his closing time of 34.54 seconds over the last 600m was one of the best for the day and he is well worth keeping in mind the next time he steps out.

Rosehill Race 3 - 12:35PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1500 METRES)- Zamex

It was a win that was described as 'miraculous' after Zamex somehow came from five lengths behind at the 150m mark in the TAB Highway Handicap, chewing up the ground in the closing stages to deliver as a $2.80 favourite. The three-year-old was snagged back at the start and looked to be in a hopeless position before taking out the 1200m affair. The Matt Dale-trained galloper will likely head to the Sunshine Coast for a tilt at the Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) and the way he finished off his run on Saturday would suggest he is a chance in anything he contests at his next start.

Moonee Valley Race 9 - 5:15PM Embassy Print Solutions Handicap (1200 METRES)- Leodoro

It was a day of upsets at Moonee Valley and those that were looking for some respite by backing the favourite, Leodoro, in the last race could only look on in despair as Beau Mertens produced a bit of a shocker aboard the $3.10 pop. After looming three wide on the turn, the apprentice jockey opted not to follow the trial behind Makatiti, instead deciding to ride for luck. Leodoro was then stuck behind a wall of horses for the remainder of the 300m and went to the line untested, finishing 10th. The Michael Kent-trained galloper has shown some promise throughout his career and has had just two starts this campaign, with a 3rd at the Valley before his 10th on the weekend. The lightly raced galloper can turn things around at his next start.
