Wagin Tips and Preview - Essential guide to Wagin on Friday, April 21

Trent Orwin in Harness 21 Apr 2017
  • Tips and Preview for Wagin on Friday night
  • Mister Coffee looks a strong chance to break maiden
  • No More Change drops in class and looks over the odds

Trent Orwin previews his best selections for Friday night's meeting at Wagin.

Race 2 (7:07pm local/9:07pm AEST) – MS PACE – 2180m

An open race where most of this field could win with the right run.

Cogeday will find this C0-C2 more suitable than recent encounters that included a pair of runs in M0-M2 grade. He was placed in one of those from this draw at Gloucester Park and he should get a suitable run on the pegs.

One of the tougher horses in the race, Bronson Chabros can look to get off the pegs at some stage and make his run or drive for luck and Cogeday should run a strong race.

Master Play and Tempest Cullen will be big improvers with the former getting the perfect draw and the latter dropping in grade.

Born A Tiger also has strong claims as does Art Lover while Jasper Whitby and Cheveyo are each-way prospects – I did say it was open!

Rated Price: $5

Selections: 3-7-1-4

Race 3 (7:33pm local/9:33pm AEST) – GRADUATION MS PACE – 2180m

No More Change enters this event third-up from a spell with a pair of 0s next to his name. They were in stronger races than this and the class drop should see a change of fortune for No More Change who is currently an each-way price at $10 and $2.88 in the early market.

He claimed a C0-C2 race at Northam four starts back when making a move to the breeze and gaining cover. I’m not sure on driving tactics here but he looks suited.

Santanna Cruiser will appreciate this grade of horse after an M0-M2 event in town which was miles too strong for him.

Cyclone North, My Names Bob, Machulbeatchu and High Speed Chase also have claims.

Rated Price: $3.50

Selections: 6-8-1-4

Race 8 (10:10pm local/12:10am AEST) – WESTBRED GRADUATION MS PACE – 2180m

This race doesn’t fill me with much confidence but Mister Coffee looks an improver for Garry Butler.

Two starts ago he raced in a three-year-old event and was beaten 11.4m. He beat home Miss Twiggy Whitby and Flying Margareta – both of those horses would be short odds here.

He was bitterly disappointing last start failing to beat a runner home but a drop in class could prove a significant difference and I believe he can run well here.

Masked Diablo could be an improver after a long time off and stable change while Jackygee and Ayana can run well from their peg-line draws.

Rated Price: $2.50

Selections: 3-4-1-7
