Tiger Tara

Form analyst Trent Orwin previews the Group 1 Blacks A Fake Queensland Championship (2680m) at Albion Park on Saturday night.

Tiger Tara benefits from a front-line draw and driver Todd McCarthy will be keen to put him into the race at the start with ambitions of finding the lead. Major Crocker has drawn inside which will make it interesting but he should relinquish to the in-form Tiger Tara over the staying distance. He led early in the Kilmore Pacing Cup (2690m) before handing to Lennytheshark.

Kevin Pizzuto has done a great job with the six-year-old entire, a former New Zealand pacer, who has won back-to-back events. Both of those were against much easier opposition but he was impressive in both as an odds-on favourite.

Tiger Tara’s run in the Len Smith Mile (1609m) at Menangle behind My Field Marshal was excellent as he made up plenty of ground during a 53.9 last half.

Prior to that, Tiger Tara raced outside of Hectorjayjay for the final 900m and fought gamely to run a narrow second in 1:54.4 for the 2300m at Menangle.

Finding the lead will be crucial to Tiger Tara’s chances in the Blacks A Fake Queensland Championship and if he is able to do so, he is going to take plenty of catching as his form is very strong. The last time he was able to do so he crushed Spare Me Days by 14.5m in 1:57.5 when capturing the Sydney Cup (2140m).

Even more impressive was his victory in the Renshaw Cup (2525m) when winning by 26.6m over Spare Me Days and Ultimate Art. He rated 1:55.2 and clocked 55.7 for his final 800m.

Tiger Tara is still in the hunt even if he is unable to find the lead as he has plenty of strength and speed.

My Field Marshal looks to be the main danger after winning the Len Smith Mile two starts ago. He was then second behind Hectorjayjay in the Sunshine Sprint (1660m) and was the better run in the event.

Stablemates Hectorjayjay and Lennytheshark also have strong claims in the event and they have been the benchmark in Australia for the past two years.

Mr Mojito isn’t out of contention either and his formline reads very well for a $26 chance. Smaller hope to Mach Doro who looks to be a place chance if things went his way.
