Form analyst Trent Orwin previews his best selections for Narrogin on Thursday night.
Race 1 (6:14pm local/9:14pm AEDT) – 3YO WESTBRED MS PACE – 2242m
Writing On Thewall will look to hold out Rich Maiden at the start and if he is able to hold the lead, he is going to take plenty of catching.
Returning from a spell over course and distance on March 1, Writing On Thewall raced outside of Allamerican Queen and battled gamely in the home straight to finish third behind the mare and Illusionation.
He ran well three starts ago behind star pacer Mitch Maguire and Lord Willoughby was runner up in that event; that pacer has stepped up recently and franks the form for Writing On Thewall.
Race 4 (7:40pm local/10:40pm AEDT) – MS PACE – 2242m
White Eagle won’t find a more suitable race than gaining barrier one in a C1-C3 contest. Soho Wall Street is the best horse engaged but can mix his form, especially if being asked to do the work in his races.
Soho Wall Street’s form reads well but he could start very short odds and White Eagle should be the value in the race – I have Soho Wall Street favourite ahead of White Eagle but they look the main two chances.
White Eagle hasn’t been placed in his past seven starts which is a concern but his form has looked better in three runs since joining trainer Ashleigh Markham.
The last time he led he was placed behind American Angel and Im Zuleika at Bunbury when run down by the pair but Narrogin looks a more suitable venue.
Race 5 (8:05pm local/11:05pm AEDT) – MS PACE – 2242m
Bettor Boa is the class runner and she will be made to earn it tonight with Artistic Lilly the likely leader.
I’m going to tip The Real Nadal who has barrier 10 to overcome but could follow Bettor Boa into the race unless that mare makes a mid-race move for the breeze.
Ideally, The Real Nadal will track Bettor Boa three-wide into the race and he has been running nice sectionals of late.
He has run midfield or better at his past four starts against stronger opposition collectively and this looks the right sort of grade for him to race well on an each-way basis.
Race 7 (9:10pm local/12:10am AEDT) – FILLIES AND MARES MS PACE – 2242m
Eliza Dundee has been consistent in four career runs to date and she gets her chance to attempt to lead throughout. There is a possibility she hands up to either Maia Maguire or Four Heartbeats, but they may decide to hold up tonight.
At her past three starts, Eliza Dundee has been beaten 3.9, 4.5 and 4.2m in races won by Punters Dream, Tajie Baby and Im Stylish.
It is the latest which gives me a bit of confidence she may be ready to run a race as Im Stylish is a very talented three-year-old filly.
Soho Angel was in that race also finishing 0.9m ahead of Eliza Dundee which is good form.
Race 8 (9:40pm local/12:40am AEDT) – GRADUATION MS PACE – 2242m
Myanniegoat looks the best horse in the race and the three-year-old filly meets fairly average opposition.
At her first run for trainer Andrew De Campo, she led throughout to win at Albany over 2258m.
Previous form had seen her run home fairly at Bunbury over 1609m and she should continue to improve at her fifth career start.
