Form analyst Trent Orwin previews the Group 1 Golden Slipper (2130m) at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Jack Mac is a short-priced favourite and that comes as no surprise after he drew barrier two. He should lead or race in the death seat and will prove extremely hard to beat.

A winner at all five starts in WA, Jack Mac made a dominant statement in the Group 1 Pearl Classic (2130m) with a 1:55.9-mile rate victory from the breeze. He won by 10.4m and dashed home in 56.3 seconds.

This field has more depth with Cott Beach and Golden State joining the fray, but Jack Mac will most likely be the winner.

Rock Me Over has been scratched and that makes way for Jack Mac’s stablemate, Deep Blue, to move into barrier 10 and he could race three back the pegs which will be a great position to be if Jack Mac leads and runs strong sectionals.

Deep Blue led and was disappointing last start, but he is inexperienced and may be better at chasing at this stage of his career. It is for this reason that I am happy suggesting Deep Blue as a place only prospect at big odds.

Mister Spot has drawn barrier one and should receive a beautiful run throughout. If he can hold the leader’s back then he will have strong claims of filling a place as horses trying to make ground may find it tough if Jack Mac runs them along or makes it a dash home in a quick last half.

Finishing second behind Highroller Joe in the Group 1 Westbred 2YO Colts and Geldings (2130m), Mister Spot made up ground after racing five back on the pegs.

I don’t think he can beat Jack Mac so will suggest him as a place only bet also.

Cott Beach, Golden State and Highroller Joe have the ability to cause an upset if Jack Mac doesn’t bring his best but their respective place prices aren’t appealing in the race.
