Race 2 (6:12pm local/8:12pm AEDT) – THE JOHNSON MARES QUALIFYING HEAT 2 – 2130m
Glenferrie Arch makes her WA debut for trainer Debbie Padberg but I couldn’t take an odds-on quote without seeing her for the first time.
Auctioneers Elsu and C C Chevron represent the class runners in the field and both can be dangerous from barriers four and five respectively.
After finishing strongly last week, Auctioneers Elsu may be able to go on with it here and looks very well suited and has come up as my top pick in the race.
C C Chevron looks excellent value at double figures and was held up with plenty to offer in that same race.
Race 3 (6:42pm local/8:42pm AEST) – MS PACE – 1730m
Three Kings should hold up but has been known to fold when attempting to lead and in this field, I am happy to bet around him.
Frostyflyer is extremely consistent and capable of running a winning time in this field. Not sure where he maps but should be running home strongly.
Last prep he was a narrow third behind Ima Connoisseur and Franco Rayner which is good form for this event.
Khun Ratha is another consistent type that will either be outside the leader or handy to the speed and looks excellent value over the 1730m.
Race 4 (7:14pm local/9:14pm AEST) – MS PACE – 2130m
Santanna Cruiser should take a sit in this company because if he doesn’t expect him to finish a long way back. This leaves the door open for James Galleon to charge off the gate and search for the lead; Superimposed should be doing the same.
The field has depth but James Galleon ($12/$3.70) could be vastly improved if he can find the leader’s role and his recent form is good. It’s not as strong as some of his rivals but he does look suited in this race.
I like the way James Galleon has been hitting the line recently and Lauren Jones is very capable in the sulky (especially if she is driving a frontrunner).
There are plenty of hopes in the race and the market is unlikely to miss any of them.
Race 8 (9:15pm local/11:15pm AEST) – MS PACE – 1730m
All About Pink should lead for a long way and this is the sort of race that she can win. I couldn’t take a short quote about the mare and think Padabing Stride can run past her in the straight.
That horse is the lone second-row runner and Shannon Suvaljko should have him in a pretty good position. The horse has shown he can produce a strong sprint and this is a pretty weak M0 race – it is basically a C1-C2 event.
Suvaljko drove Padabing Stride in a much stronger event at Bunbury last start and he let down well.
Race 9 (9:45pm local/11:45pm AEST) – FOLLOW GLOUCESTER PARK ON FACEBOOK MS PACE – 2536m
El Hombre is going to be very hard to beat if Artistic Lilly takes the trail. She failed over the longer trip last time and it will be interesting to see if they try to lead or hand up this time.
A Force In Action appeals on an each-way basis at $14 and $3.50 from barrier four with Chris Voak driving.
He was a winner four starts ago and has been runner up at his past three. Should go close once again and I cannot believe he has come up double figures. He isn’t a top-three pick as the map could be somewhat tricky but he shouldn’t be $14 either.
Blinding Light will run a good race and Our Jaccka Mara requires luck but has each-way claims also.
