Royal Ascot, the world’s greatest race meeting, is set to welcome one of the world’s best sprinters on Saturday when Hong Kong superstar Sacred Kingdom lines up in the Golden Jubilee.
Supplemented at a cost of £45,000 by connections, the globe-trotting sensation will be looking to regain his crown at the top of the sprinting world. A decisive winner of 12 of his 18 races, Sacred Kingdom returned to his best last time out when he defeated Rocket Man in the KrisFlyer International Sprint over 6f at Kranji.
The participation of Sacred Kingdom means that the Golden Jubilee once again has a real international flavour to it and the head of the betting is dominated by foreign raiders. Joining him is JJ The Jet Plane, Mike De Cock’s well regarded speedster from South Africa and Tuesday’s emphatic King’s Stand winner, Scenic Blast. The Australian, such an impressive winner of the first leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, will be hoping that either he or Ascot legend Takeover Target will be able to take another sprinting prize back home.
Favourites for the Golden Jubilee. Best odds:
J J The Jet Plane 7/2 PaddyPower
Sacred Kingdom 9/2 Ladbrokes
Scenic Blast 5/1 Boylesports
King’s Apostle 11/1 Coral
Kingsgate Native 12/1 PaddyPower
