With four of the five runners in the 3.20 Newcastle arriving here on the back of a recent success, you could be forgiven for thinking the contest would be a tricky puzzle to solve. On closer inspection, that doesn't appear to be the case, with the case for Its Teescomponents far more compelling than the rest. The selection is progressing at a rate of knots this term, her success over course and distance in January making it victory number three already. The manner in which she won that day suggests that there is more to come, and she is far more likely to give her running than Boris The Blade and Blazing Diva.
Following on the progressive theme, Open de L'Isle very much fits into that category, and he is taken to give the upwardly-mobile James Ewart another success in the handicap chase at 4.50. The eight-year-old has been as good as ever over timber of late, successful the last twice. The switch to fences will hold no fears, and the return to two-and-a-half miles will bring his stamina into play. With last-time-out winner Mr Prickle an inconsistent performer, Open de L'Isle rates by far the likeliest winner.
The final selection runs at Southwell in the 5.10 and arrives in the shape of Captain Imperial. Although this one is slightly more speculative, Captain Imperial shaped last time over a mile as if ready to take advantage of a much reduced mark. Attracting significant support in the morning, the four-year-old went with plenty of zest from the front before tiring late on. He's clearly very well treated on last year's form, and is worth risking back over seven furlongs.
