Fantasia fantastic in Doncaster return

Racingbase Staff - 10 Sep 2009

Things kept getting better and better for jockey Kieren Fallon and trainer Luca Cumani as the pair successfully got Fantasia back to form in the Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.

After disappointing on two starts in France this season, the Nell-Gwyn winner delivered an impressive display under the returning jockey and though she was down to Listed level in the race, she was nowhere near being caught and returned the 5/6 favourite.

Although he had to push Fantasia along, the filly really began to pick up speed into the final furlong and although Shamwari Lodge tried to battle her to the line, she was not in the same league and the winner won by a cosy two lengths.

The victory completed a double for Fallon, who had earlier taken the opener on highly-regarded two-year-old Coordinated Cut and the jockey and trainer Luca Cumani can no look forward to saddling another highly-talented filly at Doncaster tomorrow, the 1000 Guineas favourite Seta.

Afterwards Fallon was delighted and explained: "She's a lovely filly and very relaxed. It was a confidence-booster for her and will hopefully start things for her.

"There were some tough fillies in this race and she's run by them well today. I gave her a couple of taps to keep her up to it when she got there.

"There's some nice races left and the boss (Cumani) has the team in great shape."
