The Gordon Elliott trained Carlito Brigante is now as short as 7-1 with Stan James to land this year’s Triumph Hurdle after a facile success in the Scottish equivalent at Musselburgh on Sunday.

After travelling well he joined long time leader Ultimate going to the last and galloped on strongly to win by a comfortable six lengths. He will now look to become the first Irish winner of the Triumph Hurdle since 2002 when Scolardy won for trainer Willie Mullins.

Another Irish raider looking for Triumph success is Pittoni, who continued his preparations with a fine success in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday. After being cut from as a big as 33/1 to generally best price 16/1 (William Hill), trainer Charles Brynes was adamant there was more improvement to come from the four-year-old.

“A faster pace would have suited him better and better ground would definitely bring out improvement in him. Looking ahead the Triumph would be the target although we wouldn’t want the ground on the fast side of good” stated Brynes.

According, last week’s big mover for the Triumph hurdle, was pushed right out from 9’s/to 33’s byWilliam Hill after a shocking performance on his British debut at Sandown on Saturday. After pulling way too hard in the early stages, he emptied quickly in the home straight, finishing tailed off behind winner Diktalina.
