Archipenko out of Coral-Eclipse

Nick Wilby - 2 Jul 2009

Globetrotting superstar Archipenko will miss this Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse from Sandown.

The Mike de Kock five-year-old has suffered a swollen fetlock and will miss the Group 1 race.  Many people saw Archipenko as representing serious each-way value, after winning the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot last July before coming a close second to Spirit One in the Arlington Mile and then winning a Group 3 at Nad Al Sheba.

Generally a 14/1 shot for the race, connections had been pleased with his build up and jockey Kevin Shea could not hide his disappointment: "It is disappointing and is a wicked blow. I was looking forward to riding him and missed a big week in South Africa, the July Cup meeting, to stay here and ride him.

"He has a swollen fetlock, it is an early prognosis and we don't know when he will be back."

Bookmakers remain keen to duck favourite Sea The Stars who is looking to add another Group 1 victory to his Guineas and Derby winning exploits.
