2010 Kentucky Derby news - Awesome Act impresses in Gotham Stakes

Racingbase Staff - 8 Mar 2010

Awesome Act put up a scintillating performance at Aqueduct Racecourse on Saturday to win the Gotham Stakes and has been slashed to 20-1 from 33-1 by Coral to win the Kentucky Derby in May.

"Awesome Act lived up to his name in the Gotham Stakes and you have to watch the race to realise how easily he won it and how much he relished the dirt surface. Make no mistake he is a serious contender for this year's Kentucky Derby", said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

"The dream lives on! This was a plan hatched immediately after the Breeders' Cup and the first step has gone well," Noseda explained.

"It wasn't the greatest contest in the world but he gave a good performance and I couldn't be happier with the way the horse did it.

"He handled the dirt, handled the kickback and is getting better in the way that he races.

"It was a bold effort and hopefully he'll keep moving forward. I think he will get better and better.

"Touch wood, he seems well after his race. I have two very experienced staff in Wayne Tanner and George Winsor out there and they are happy with him.

"The horse remains on course for the Wood Memorial on Saturday, April 3.

"He will stay at Steve Asmussen's barn at Belmont as the horse seems happy in that environment."
