Burton Port tightens Nicky Henderson's grip on the RSA Chase market

Burton Port has tightened Nicky Henderson’s grip on the Cheltenham Festival’s RSA Chase betting market after being cut into 20-1 from 33-1 by Stan James, after an impressive performance at Southwell today.

The Trevor Hemmings owned six-year-old travelled supremely well and given a confident ride by Barry Geraghty went past early leaders Blazing Bailey and The Silotar to win the novice chase by 14 lengths. This performance follows his win at Lingfield in December where he accounted for the Paul Nicholls trained Massasoit, who ran a decent third in the Totesport Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

Henderson already has the top two in the market for Cheltenham with Punchestowns and
Long Run, the later having been very impressive at the weekend at Sandown.

Punchestowns currently a 3-1 favourite with Skybet looked ultra impressive despite making a dreadful mistake when beating Tchico Polos by 8 lengths. However, the impressive win of Tazbar (25/1 with William Hill) at Doncaster on Saturday has strengthened the look of the form of Long Run.

Long Run, who Henderson believes to be his best chance to win a Cheltenham Gold Cup in the future, is a 6-1 (Paddy Power) clear second favourite for The RSA Chase. The French bred four-year-old has only made one appearance in this country so far when easily winning the Feltham Novice Chase at Kempton in December. Tazbar was a distant second that day; however his performance at Doncaster when destroying a decent field has given a solid look to that particular form.
