The pre-entries for the forthcoming William Hill King George Vi Chase were revealed today, with the 32-strong list unsurprisingly spearheaded by National Hunt hero Kauto Star.
The reigning Gold Cup winner will make another assault on the Kempton highlight to attempt an historic fourth consecutive victory in the three-mile chase, and is an Even money chances with sponsors William Hill.
Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, told Racingbase: “We are delighted with the quality of entries for our sponsorship of the William Hill King George VI Chase, a list dominated by Kauto Star attempting to make history with four consecutive wins. Despite a glorious victory in last season’s Gold Cup, the line-up for our first sponsorship looks fraught with danger for the Champion and the opposition are clearly not shying from the challenge.”
The 11-time Grade One will be joined by course and distance winner Madison du Berlais who holds the 5-1 second-favourites spot with Hills, along with Ryanair winner Imperial Commander, Racing Post Chase winner Nacarat, and Melling Chase winner Voy Por Ustedes, all of whom are available at 14-1.
Other notable entries include 16-1 chance Cooldine who joins the second-season chaser ranks following his RSA Chase win last season. Charlie Hall Chase winner Deep Purple (20-1), and the Queen’s Barbers Shop (25-1) who won his first chase at Kempton back in February 2008.
